China and India Confront Similar Challenges in the Media: A Trip Report

America is confronting a series crisis in journalism and media - lots of creative destruction going on, and the educational system designed to produce journalists and media types are as confounded as the industries they are supposed to serve. In communist China, and in the world's largest developing democracy - India - there was similar passionate worry that the training of the next generation of experts is falling down on the job. "We have to completely reform our media education system", said one  high ranking university dean who also holds a senior government post in China".


From where I sit at the Annenberg School in LA, I couldn't agree more with their sentiments and their sense of urgency. We need to do the same in America.  So, it's common challenges, even if different conditions and responses.
